In the first Guardians of the Galaxy, one of the most touching aspects is that by the end of the movie, Peter has basically found a new family in his comrades. Having left Earth at such a young age, and after having lost his mother just before that, he didn’t have a family of his own and was always a lone wolf. The second movie expands on that as Peter finds out where he comes from- and it’s somewhere he never would have expected.

Of course, it’s not the Guardians of the Galaxy without Gamora, Drax, Rocket, and Groot along for the ride- and this time, they’re joined by some new characters as well. Without giving too much away, Peter and the crew learn that blood doesn’t always make a family- sometimes, your family is who you choose {or who chooses you}.

I loved all of the bonus features but my favorite feature was the gag reel. I always love watching that for every movie but for this one it was especially awesome because you can tell that the cast just really has fun with each other!

In celebration of the movie’s release date, I made some Galaxy Marshmallow Meteorites! We always love eating popcorn on family movie night, so I thought I’d take some popcorn and make it even more special. Get the recipe below:

Galaxy Marshmallow Meteorites

Ingredients:

2 TBSP Butter
2 Cups Marshmallows
5 Cups Popped Popcorn {I made mine fresh with this!}
1/2 Cup Black Candy Melts
1/2 Cup Lavender Candy Melts
1/2 Cup Blue Candy Melts
Silver star sprinkles

Directions:

1. In a large pan, melt the butter over medium heat. Be careful not to burn the butter- lower the heat as needed.
2. When your butter is done melting, add the marshmallows! If using large marshmallows, I recommend cutting them into smaller pieces first. Using a spoon {preferably a silicone one so it’s non-stick}, gently stir the marshmallows and butter together, keeping them moving, until the marshmallows are melted and the ingredients have combined.
3. Immediately add your popcorn! Add a little bit at a time, making sure to cover it all with the butter/marshmallow mixture.
4. Once all the popcorn has been added and it’s all covered in the mix, turn off the heat and wait a minute or so until you can touch the popcorn. Don’t wait for it to fully cool, but wait until you won’t get hurt touching it!
5. At that point, put the popcorn mixture on a cutting board or other workspace that you don’t mind gettingreally messy. Using your hands, form “balls”- I made mine different sizes and didn’t make them into perfect ball shape so that they’d look more like “space junk”!
6. While they finish cooling, place each color of candy melts into a separate small dish. Microwave in increments of 15 seconds {I did all three small bowls at once}, stirring between each session and repeating until fully melted.
7. Immediately drizzle candy melts all over the meteorites! I started with black, then did lavender, then blue- then immediately add your star sprinkles so they’ll stick!
8. Optionally repeat step 7 {I did} to get even more galaxy goodness on the meterorites.
9. Allow to fully cool and enjoy while watching Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2!
