quote:
Scott Pilgrim's life is totally sweet. He's 23 years old, he's in a rock band, he's "between jobs," and he's dating a cute high school girl. Nothing could possibly go wrong, unless a seriously mind-blowing, dangerously fashionable, rollerblading delivery girl named Ramona Flowers starts cruising through his dreams and sailing by him at parties. Will Scott's awesome life get turned upside-down? Will he have to face Ramona's seven evil ex-boyfriends in battle?

Scott Pilgrim vs. The World
Be ready!
Beschrijving van de website:
quote:
Meet charming and jobless Scott Pilgrim (Michael Cera). A bass guitarist for totally average garage band Sex Bob-omb, the 22-year-old has just met the girl of his dreams…literally. The only catch to winning Ramona Flowers (Mary Elizabeth Winstead)? Her seven evil exes are coming to kill him. Genre-smashing filmmaker Edgar Wright (Hot Fuzz, Shaun of the Dead) tells the amazing story of one romantic slacker’s quest to power up with love in Scott Pilgrim vs. the World.
Scott Pilgrim has never had a problem getting a girlfriend. It’s getting rid of them that proves difficult. From the girl who kicked his heart’s ass—and now is back in town—to the teenage distraction he’s trying to shake when Ramona rollerblades into his world, love hasn’t been easy. He soon discovers, however, his new crush has the most unusual baggage of all: a nefarious league of exes control her love life and will do whatever it takes to eliminate him as a suitor.
As Scott gets closer to Ramona, he must face an increasingly vicious rogues’ gallery from her past—from infamous skateboarders to vegan rock stars and fearsomely identical twins. And if he hopes to win his true love, he must vanquish them all before it really is game over.

Graphic Novel:
quote:
We live in exciting times, ladies and gentlemen: book 5 of the Scott Pilgrim, Scott Pilgrim Vs. The Universe, has recently been published, giving me just the excuse I need to talk about one of the most entertaining graphic novels out there, and explain why any self-respecting film or game geek should care about it (even leaving aside the rather promising Edgar Wright film version headed out way).
So what is this series and why should you care? Well, two reasons. First of all, it's an ace story about being 20-something and at a bit of a loose end: think Slacker or Reality Bites or, like, don't, whatever man. Scott Pilgrim's the bassist in a not-great band, shares a crappy studio apartment (and indeed a bed) with gay roommate Wallace, often has no discernable income and is (at the beginning of the series) dating a high-school girl whose teenage concerns he finds relaxing and nostalgic. When he meets girl-of-his-dreams Ramona Flowers, he makes all the wrong moves (but not in a crappy rom-com sort of way; in a believeable way), doesn't quite get around to telling his high-school honey, and generally nearly self-destructs before it begins. The books paint a real picture of a recognisably dumb, funny, useless, heroic, romantic, annoying, loveable group of people, and they're really hard to dismiss just as more manga heroes. Even with the strong lines and huuuge eyes.
Secondly, there's the fantasy elements. See, Scott first meets Ramona when she takes a subspace shortcut through his dreams as part of her Amazon delivey roller-route. And then he has to fight her seven evil exes in order to be with her, which he does in an awesome manga / computer game stylee that is both used seriously and tongue-in-cheek. Heck, when he defeats them, they typically disappear and a shower of coins or an extra life appears in their place. In this fifth book, he gets to fight robots. Robots! With Astroboy-style flared legs and everything! The awesomeness is considerable.
Actually, I lied about there being just two reasons. There's oodles. The next big one is the geek friendliness of the whole thing: while it isn't full of references crowbarred in, it's clear that Scott is a geek and a big one. This fifth book has two scenes where he's talking to Ramona (it's pretty one-sided) and his chat is a variation on the following,
"So then they all end up in Australia. And they live in this weird fake town for a while, but they teleport all over the world. Then the bad guys come back and the psychic girl makes everyone go through the Siege Perilous and they all lose their memories except Wolverine, and he totally gets crucified! On an X! Um...and it's totally rad?"
DUDE! He's trying to explain one of the dumber stoopider weirder Chris Claremont X-Men arcs to his girlfriend? How adorable. In a seriously-that's-not-going-to-work-cause-it-doesn't-even-make-sense-to-geeks sort of way.
Then there's the great supporting characters, many of whom have their own superpowers (and dead-end jobs) but who also boast unrequited loves, psychic boyfriends, evil exes of their own, strange obsessions and annoying siblings. And some truly impressive band names. And amusingly manga artwork. And characters that wear cool / geek cool T-shirts. And a big helping of funny.
If you haven't read 'em yet, do yourself a favour. The first five (of six) books are out there now, the movie's in production and you're not going to be able to bitch about whatever Wright decides to do unless you read the damn thing first ("like, OMG, I can't believe he's cast that guy instead of that other guy or whatever"). Go already!
"An epic of epic epicness"

The average burglar breaks in and leaves clues everywhere. But not me. I'm completely clueless.
Scott Pilgrim heerst zo ontzettend erg.

Coole strips.
Coole trailer.

Mooie tijden in aankomst!

Cera is tof. Soundtrack is tof. Trailer is tof.

20 juli?
Conscience do cost.
