So what makes this red yellow and blue ice cream so wildly popular?
Is it the luscious swirls of creamy red, green, yellow and blue ice cream that makes it one of the most popular flavors of ice cream in Michigan?

What Does Superman Ice Cream Taste Like? Ingredients? The Mysterious Flavors are...
Drum roll....the flavors and ingredients are:
WELL. It depends on the brand or the ice cream parlor! For me (a Michigander that's licked A LOT Superman flavored ice cream cones) the flavors are mostly vanilla and cherry. It's a mild flavor with very eye catching colors!
- The yellow ice cream flavor is most commonly vanilla but it can be lemon or banana.
- The blue ice cream flavor can be Blue Moon or vanilla.
- The red ice cream flavor is usually red cherry or Red Pop.
FYI: Red Pop is made by the Michigan soda company, Faygo, which tastes like a strawberry flavor.

I'll tell you, adults and kids alike love this cold delicious dessert here in Michigan and Wisconsin! It isn’t well-known outside of the Midwest as it originated right here in Michigan. However, you can find it in select ice cream parlors across the United States. Check Baskin Robbins to see if they carry this colorful ice cream during your travels.
All I know, Superman is definitely one of Michigan's favorite ice cream flavors!
Origin: What's the History of Superman Ice Cream? Is It Related to America's Favorite Superhero?
Per Wikipedia, this cold creamy dessert is commonly believed to have originated in Detroit, Michigan, at Stroh's Ice Cream during the Prohibition Era.
What's interesting is that the flavor originated before the debut of Superman in 1938!
Naturally, since Superman Ice Cream colors are the colors of his costumer, people think it was named after the popularsuperhero. But whatever it's exact origins, it began in Michigan, the Great Lakes State!By the way, the yellow color was originally lemon!
According to the International Dairy Foods Association, in 2022, ice cream makers in the United States churned out 1.38 billion gallons of ice cream! So all of our ice cream eating directly supports 28,800 direct jobs, and generates $1.8 billion in direct wages! So, say YES to the double scoop!

Blue Bunny - "Scooper Hero" Basically all flavors are vanilla. You can find Blue Bunny at Walmart, Target and Kroger.
Dean's - Available at Walmart and Meijer. "Super Rainbow" which is Blue Moon,Red Popand Vanilla.
Hudsonville Brand - Found at Meijer. The flavors are Blue Moon, Black Cherry and Vanilla. Lots of people think Hudsonville is the creamiest and best flavor of of the creamy treat.
Kemp's - It can be found at Family Fare stores and Kroger.
KrogerBrand - "Tie Dye Burst" and the flavors are Blue Moon, Cherry and Vanilla
Meijer (Purple Cow brand) - "Scooperman" and the flavors are Blue Moon, Black Cherry and Vanilla.
Stroh's Ice Cream- "Super Rainbow" which is Blue Moon, Red Pop and Lemon flavors in their ice cream parlor. When you buy it in the store it's vanilla, black cherry and Blue Moon.
Honestly, Stroh's ice cream is Chris and I's favorite store bought brand, hands down. We buy the French Vanilla weekly and love the Super Rainbow flavors. It's the best ice cream.
